Mobile Lab for Pollinators & Gardens

Through a grant from the Natural Resource Conservation District (NRCS) the Conservation District created a Mobile Lab to teach citizens from Newberry County about our Pollinator friends, their habitat and ways to plant to attract more species to your yard or garden.

Gardens can be containers, beds, raised beds, vegetables or flowers.  You can utilize native varieties of vegetables to increase crop yield and native flowers will thrive in our climate/region.

Our classes vary monthly.  Since the lab is Mobile, we can go all over our county to include education for schools, events and festivals.

One of the programs we speak about is hydroponics, a method without soil, but with water (hydro).  We also speak on composting, and it’s benefits for great soil.  We have a tumble composter on display.  We also have a Rain Simulator that shows the benefits of cover crops between planting seasons.  The benefits reduce runoff, erosion and create a more nutrient rich soil.

The mobile lab is a 24’ trailer that is set up as an outdoor classroom.  Complete with shade awning, 55” color monitor for videos.  Picnic Tables and benches make it comfortable for hands on learning.

We invite specialists from a variety of agencies including Fish & Wildlife, Clemson Ext., Master Gardeners, Biologists to give presentations from their field of expertise.
